"Sanath one of the best" - Ian Chappell

Ian Chappell recently in his column in a leading cricket magazine, picked Sanath as one of the five most influential one day cricketers of all time.Others picked by Chappell are Viv Richards, Joel Garner, Imran Khan and Shane Warne. There is no denying that it was Sanath's amazing hitting during the 1996 World Cup and the period immediately after that changed the course of one day cricket and had made it a game more attractive to watch.Chappell also mentioned that Sanath's famous centuries at Singapore in 1996 gave him an idea how Donald Bradman must have dominated the bowling attacks during the Don's time. Coming from an Australian where Bradman is held in the highest pedestal, any comparison with Bradman is very high praise indeed. At 38, though it may appear that the Matara-mauler may have passed his pompous best, he is still explosive enough to cause mayhem and destroy any bowling attack when in mood.
